Someone asks me about partner codes every couple of weeks. Same question every time: can you get free trades or lower spreads?
Nope. AvaTrade charges zero commission on forex. You pay the spread. The spread is the fee. A partner code won't affect it.
What 128979 does is unlock the welcome bonus. Bonus money added to your account based on deposit size. Nothing more complicated than that.
How much bonus do you receive?
$1,000 deposit adds $200.
$2,000 gets you $400.
$5,000 to $9,999 adds $1,000.
Maximum bonus is $14,000 for deposits above $100,000. Not many traders reach that level.
UK traders funding in pounds start at £160 on £800. Goes to £11,200 at the top.
Minimum to open an account is $100. Bonus requires $1,000 minimum.
The code field isn't obvious
During registration. After you enter your phone number, look for small text that says "Have a Partner Code?" with an arrow next to it. Click the arrow. A field drops down. Type **128979**.
Most people miss it because it doesn't look like a proper form field until you click.
If you see an error, it's fine. Go ahead and register anyway. Reach out to your account manager first. Tell them you want 128979 applied. Standard practice for them.
There's a catch with the bonus
There's a volume requirement.
Roughly 10,000 units traded per $1 bonus. $200 bonus requires 2,000,000 units of trading volume. Takes a while if you trade small. Active traders hit it quicker than expected.
Your own money stays yours. Take it out anytime. Bonus funds remain locked until volume more info is met.
One thing worth knowing: locked bonus funds still contribute to your margin. This lets you take bigger positions. Newer traders benefit from that extra cushion.
